ABILENE, Texas – McMurry's men's tennis team dropped a pair of non-conference matches on Friday, falling to St. Mary's, 8-1, and to College of the Southwest, 7-2.
In the day's first match versus NCAA II St. Mary's, McMurry's lone victory came from
Chris Breaux at No. 1 singles. Breaux defeated St. Mary's Marcin Marczewski, 6-3, 6-4 to account for McMurry's lone team point of the morning.
In the evening match against College of the Southwest, No. 2 singles player
Casjen Rico bested Southwest's Teddy Yalky, 6-2, 6-4 for the War Hawk's only singles win.
The day's most exciting match came at third singles between McM's
Preston Steblein and Southwest's Josh Baker. Baker won the first set, 6-0, but Steblein battled back to win the second set, 7-6. That forced the deciding third set, won by Baker, 10-6.
Rico and Breaux teamed up at first doubles for a win, as well.
