ABILENE, Texas – McMurry's tennis team opened the 2012 season in dominating fashion, topping NCAA Division II foe Texas A&M-Kingsville, 8-1.
The War Hawks (1-0) lost its lone match at No. 1 singles, where McM's
Dana LeMieux fell to Kingsville's Danielle Moore, 6-1, 6-5. But after that, it was all War Hawks.
McMurry won in straight sets in the balance of the Nos. 2-6 singles matches. Sonia Del Heirro was a 6-2, 6-0 victor over Victoria Rios at No. 2 and
Lacey Krusmark defeated the Javelinas' Lindle Pennington, 6-2, 6-2.
At No. 4 singles,
Brandy Curry toppled Whitney Roth, 6-0, 6-1, while at No. 5 singles it was McM's
Autumn Patterson winning, 6-0, 6-2, over Azia Hinojosa.
Jaime Chitty closed out the singles' victories with a 6-0, 6-0 blanking of Sondra Cui.
McMurry swept doubles, as well. At No. 1, it was LeMieux teaming with
Sydney Gonzalez, while Curry and Del Heirro won at the No. 2 match. No. 3 doubles' winners were the War Hawks' tandem of
Hilary Stone and
Chelsea Miller.
McMurry University vs Texas A&M, Kingsville
