ABILENE, Texas - McMurry University's women's basketball team led wire-to-wire in dispatching of the American Southwest Conference West Division leader Concordia -Texas, 55-39, at Kimbrell Arena.

The win improved the War Hawks to 10-5 overall and 8-3 in the ASC race. The Tornados fell to 12-3 on the year and 10-2 in the league.

McM led by as many as 13 points in the opening stanza on an M.J. Vickers (six points) three-pointer that made it 23-10 with 7:59 left in the half. The War Hawks maintained that double-digit lead until the last few minutes of then half when Concordia was able to trim the deficit to seven, 32-25, at the intermission.

The Tornados were able to draw to within four points early in the second period when Katherine Frost iced a three-pointer to cut McMurry's advantage to 36-32. But back-to-back buckets by Jamie Wilson (four points) and Keshia Collins quickly let the air out of any hopes the Tornados ,might have had for a comeback.

So suffocating was the War Hawk defense this night that Concordia went the final 5:10 minutes of the game without a single point. The War Hawks produced 21 steals and four blocked shots in forcing Concordia into a 28-percent night shooting (15-52) from the floor.

"I was so pleased with the girls' effort," McM head coach Veronica Snow said. "They set the tone for the game. We got every 50-50 ball; we got second-chance points. "

No one player typified the great McMurry output than post player Celeste Belizario, who had a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds. Just for good measure, Belizario chipped in three blocked shots and a steal.

"Celeste was so good tonight," continued Snow. "She has been getting better and better with each game. She's learning how to play with her size and be effective."

Collins led all scorers with 17 points. She also pulled down five rebounds and made five steals. Teammate Rikeita Thomas added 10 points.
