BOERNE, Texas – McMurry University got on the board for the first time in 2011, but fell short to the University of Houston-Victoria Tuesday at the Boerne Sports Complex, 4-1.
The War Hawks dropped to 0-2 on the season but had a bright spot when
Mario Varela put in his first goal in a McMurry uniform in the 74th minute to knot the score at one.
However, with just 16 minutes left in regulation, the Jaguars erupted for three goals in a 11:20 span to seal the victory. Mauricio Malagon hit the game winner just 1:02 after McMurry's Varela struck; the goal came from 35 yards out.
Then, UHV added goals in the 79th and 87th minutes respectively by Adrian Mendoza and Jesus Amaya. Mendoza scored the Jaguars' first goal as well giving him two goals and an assist for the contest helping his team improve to 3-1 on the season.

Zack Brewer recorded nine saves in the losing effort. The War Hawks return to action with their first home game Friday against Central Christian College (Kan.) at 5 p.m.
