HOBBS, N.M. – McMurry University's men's soccer team picked up its first win of the season Sunday when the War Hawks came from behind to defeat the University of the Southwest 3-2 on the road.

USW's Angel Hernandez started off the scoring for the home team with a goal assists from Nicolas Kapua in the 39th minute. Sherharyar Kahn answered for McMurry in the opening seconds of the second half with the senior's first goal since his freshman season in 2007 on a set up from Ryan Prince.

The Mustangs answered back seconds later to re-gain the lead when Hernandez set up his teammate Esteban Loya in the 46th minute to make the lead 2-1.

However, the War Hawks got unassisted goals from Cody Gentry in the 55th minute to knot the score, and then Mario Varela hit the game winner in the 62nd minute while the War Hawks defense kept the Mustangs at bay for the remainder of the contest.

Zack Brewer picked up the win in the goalie spot for McMurry saving one shot while Abram Medina picked up the loss for USW saving two shots.
