Box Score

ABILENE, Texas – Reliever Michael Dibiasi and centerfielder Dylan De Leon helped rescue McMurry from a 7-0 deficit as the War Hawks maintained control of fourth place in the American Southwest Conference West Division with an 11-9 come-from-behind win at Walt Driggers Field Saturday night.

Dibiasi threw four innings of scoreless, hitless ball to close the game out of the bullpen and struck out a career-high seven hitters picking up the victory on the mound to move to 3-1 on the season. De Leon hit a two-run single in McMurry's four-run fifth and the game-tying 3-run homer in the seventh to help aide in the comeback.

The Lobos jumped out with seven runs thanks to a 3-run second inning and a three-run fifth that included back-to-back homers from Brennyn Smith and Brian Mata.

The War Hawks answered with four runs in the fifth keyed by De Leon's two-out, two-strike, two-run single to score Jake Mullin and Austin Brooks.

Stephen Greenwood walked the first two Sul Ross hitters and surrendered a single to begin the sixth inning before Dibiasi came in relief after the Lobos had scored one run. Dibiasi's only miscue came when a wild pitch scored Ricardo Vera, but that run was charged to Greenwood. The senior lefthander kept the bleeding to a minimum striking out the side in the sixth, and the Lobos led 9-4.

In the sixth, Jacob Bermejo drove home Bradd Baker with a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to four. However, the flood gates opened in the seventh when McMurry pounded out six runs on five hits to take the lead. Brian Durst drove home the first run before De Leon's third home run of the season carried over the rightfield wall to drive home Durst and Matt Thompson. Bermejo tripled home the go-ahead run in Kory Moench before Clay Schubert added insurance driving home Bermejo with a single.

Dibiasi shut down the Lobos in order in the top of the ninth. Jose Gonzales picked up the loss in relief allowing seven runs to fall to 0-2. The War Hawks extended its lead to fourth-place in the ASC West to two games with the win forcing a three-way tie for fifth among Sul Ross, Mary Hardin-Baylor and Howard Payne at 6-10 in league play. Texas Lutheran is a game ahead of McMurry in third place at 9-7 with five league games to spare.

In order to make its eighth-straight trip to the ASC Postseason Tournament the War Hawks must place in the top four. The Lobos and the War Hawks will settle the series Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
