BROWNWOD, Texas – The McMurry War Hawks tennis teams swept Howard Payne in American Southwest Conference West Division play. The men's team defeated the Yellow Jackets 9-0 while the War Hawk women won 8-1.
The men moved to 3-0 in ASC West play with the sweep and no singles match went to three sets in the dominating victory. The War Hawks moved to 16-2 overall on the season and improved their road record to 7-1.
Chris Bumann,
Daniel Olivares,
Bryan Rainwater, Chris Breaux, Adam Ewing and
Tony Williams all took wins on the singles court. Rainwater and Bumman won 8-4 on the No. 1 doubles court, Olivares & Breau won 8-3 on the No. 2 court and Williams and Preston Steblein teamed up for an 8-1 victory on the No. 3 doubles court.
On the women's side, the War Hawks swept singles play while McMurry won two out of three doubles matches. Sydney Gonzales,
Gavee Olsen,
Hilary Stone,
Chelsea Miller,
Rachel Smith and Autumn Patterson all took singles court wins respectively in two sets.
On the doubles court Cassie Emerson & Gabi Crunelle edged McMurry's Gonzales and
Whitney Zugai 9-7 for the Yellow Jackets' only point. Stone and Miller won 8-3 on the No. 2 doubles court while Olsen & Lacey Krusmark took a 8-6 victory on the No. 3 doubles court. The McMurry women moved to 4-14 and 1-2 in league play.
McMurry will play host to Texas Lutheran and Schreiner Saturday at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center.
