War Hawk tennis continues roll; defeats Southwestern for ninth-straight win

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The McMurry War Hawks tennis team moved to 13-1 with an 8-1 win over the Southwestern Pirates Saturday while the women's team fell to Southwestern 8-1 in non-conference action.

The War Hawks swept singles play handily with Daniel Olivares on the No. 2 court as the only player to go three sets. Olivares won 4-6, 6-4, 10-6 while McMurry took the remaining courts in two sets.

Chris Bumman and Bryan Rainwater lost just their third doubles match of the season as Alex Lam and D'Aragnan Bebel and Alexander Reinsch took an 8-3 victory on the No. 1 court for the Pirates' only point.

Olivares and Chris Breaux teamed up for an American Southwest Conference leading 10th victory on the doubles court. From the No. 2 spot, the pair won 8-4 while Michael Parker and Adam Ewing won the No. 3 court, 8-0.

The War Hawks have won their ninth-straight match with its only blemish this season coming against Midwestern State March 5.

On the women's side, McMurry's Chelsea Miller took the War Hawks' sole point on the No. 5 singles court with a 6-3, 6-7, 12-10 victory. Gavee Olsen and Hilary Stone each took their respective opponents to three sets in losing efforts. McMurry battled on the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles court falling 8-6, however the Pirates took the victory.

The War Hawk women fell to 3-11 on the season; both McMurry teams begin ASC West Division play Saturday in Alpine when both teams take on Sul Ross State.
