McMurry women coast to fourth-consecutive victory over Schreiner, 64-40

Celeste Belizario grabbed nine rebounds in just 10 minutes of play Saturday to help McMurry beat Schreiner
KERRVILLE, Texas – McMurry University's women coasted to its fourth-straight victory Saturday afternoon with a 64-40 victory over Schreiner in American Southwest Conference play. Anna Berthel scored 13 points while M.J. Vickers and Keshia Collins pitched in 10 to lead McMurry to its ninth conference win of the season.

Andi Lukaszewski hit a 3-pointer with 16:53 remaining in the first half to give McMurry its first lead at 11-9. From there, the visitors would never look back, and McMurry moved to 12-8 overall and 9-6 against ASC competition.

McMurry led 32-18 at halftime and led by as many as 28 in the second half. McMurry shot 38 percent, but the defense forced 26 Mountaineer turnovers to gain the advantage. Berthel hit 3 of 8 shots from the floor and was 7 for 8 from the free-throw line. She added seven rebounds. Vickers had three steals and two blocks to go along with her double-digit scoring effort while Collins had three steals on the defensive side as well.

Lukaszewski finished with nine points and three rebounds while Celeste Belezario collected nine rebounds to lead the team in just 10 minutes of play off the bench. McMurry out-rebounded the Mountaineers 41-29 including 22 offensive boards.

In the losing effort, Candi Althaus had nine points to lead Schreiner with three 3-point field goals with all coming in the second half. Kristy Guerr had eight points, four assists and four steals as Schreiner fell to 5-15 overall and 3-13 in league play.

McMurry takes on Texas Lutheran in Seguin Monday at 5 p.m. The victory Saturday moves McMurry into fourth place in the ASC West by half a game over Mary Hardin-Baylor.
