ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University's men's tennis team got off to a quick start Friday with a 9-0 win over American Southwest Conference East Division foe LeTourneau, while the Yellow Jackets' women took a 5-4 win over McMurry at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center.
In men's action
Bryan Rainwater and Chris Bumman took an 8-1 win in No. 1 doubles,
Daniel Olivares and Chris Breaux won 8-4 on the No. 2 court and Michael Parker and Adam Ewing won 8-3 in the No. 3 slot.
On the singles court, McMurry swept all six matches in two sets. Bumman, Olivares, Rainwater, Breaux,
Tony Williams and Preston Steblien won in the No. 1-6 spots respectively. Olivares and Rawinwater each won their sets, 6-0, 6-0.
On the women's side
Hilary Stone and
Chelsea Miller paired up for an 8-0 win on the doubles court while Lacey Krusmark and Natalie Rodrigues won 8-2 on the No. 2 doubles court. However, LeTourneau took the No.2 doubles spot and won the No. 1, 2, 4 and 5 matches on the singles court to take the victory.
Stone and Autumn Patterson took wins on the singles court for McMurry. Two matches went three sets in favor of the Yellow Jackets on the singles court with Caitlyn Hairell outdueling
Gavee Olsen 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 and Brooke Kincade outlasted
Rachel Smith 7-6, 5-7, 10-4.
Both teams play NCAA Division II Dallas Baptist at 2 p.m. after taking on ASC East power UT-Tyler at 9 a.m.
