War Hawks look to hold on to half game lead in the west during two game homestand

ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University takes its half game lead in the West Division of the American Southwest Conference into a two game homestand, facing Sul Ross State and Concordia-Texas Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m. in Kimbrell Arena. The War Hawks carry a 21-2 overall record, an 11-2 record in ASC play, and a half game lead for first place in the west over Hardin-Simmons University into the weekend.
 
McMurry will be searching to tie the school record for wins in a season at 23; which has been accomplished twice in the 2002 and 1997 seasons. As a team the War Hawks are carrying a .256 hitting percentage; that's 38 points higher than the team record .218 set in 1996
 
The War Hawks have been led by M.J. Vickers who has recorded 280 kills recording a .301 hitting percentage over the 23 matches. Vickers has also recorded 250 digs on the season. Bailey Marcum has aided Vickers offensively by recording 219 kills, and leading the team with 296 digs on the year. Defensively Kasi Conners leads the team with 118 blocks that puts her one block away from tying Terah Brown for the 5th best blocking season in McMurry history.
 
Sul Ross State carries a 1-18 record and a 0-12 record in conference play into the weekend. They are led by Brooke Bankston, who has recorded 113 kills on the season. The Lobos have recorded a hitting percentage of .076 for the season. McMurry won the first meeting of the two teams in straight sets, 25-17, 25-20, 25-12. In the match McMurry recorded a hitting percentage of .321 and Vickers lead the team with seven kills.
 
Concordia-Texas comes into the contest with an 11-9 overall record and an 8-6 record in ASC play. Concordia's 8-6 conference record puts them a game in front of Texas Lutheran for third place in the west division; each division sends its top three teams to the ASC tournament. The Tornados are led offensively by the ASC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year in Kalynn White who has recorded 206 kills, adding 205 digs on the season. Kevyn Jackson leads the team with 364 digs. McMurry won the first meeting of the two teams in straight sets, 25-13. 25-15. 25-11. McMurry recorded a hitting percentage of .405 against Concordia led by Stephanie Henry who recorded 10 kills for the match. Conners led the team defensively recording five blocks.
