GEORGETOWN, Texas - McMurry University hit four home runs, scored 12 runs and pounded out 13 hits, but it wasn't enough to overcome Southwestern University Tuesday and the Pirates took the slugfest 19-12 at Rockwell Field.

Jake Mullin homered twice and scored three runs while Colby Walding and Luke Boswell each went deep as well for the visitors. However, the Pirates collected 22 hits and scored a combined 11 runs in their final two at bats to snap McMurry's four-game win streak.

In the non-conference matchup, both teams elected to go with the pitcher-by-committee system for the Tuesday game before both return to respective conference action this week. McMurry used eight pitchers while Southwestern used eight.

McMurry's only lead in the game came in the top of the first when Mullin hit his first homer of the game, a two-run shot that drove in Michael Dibiasi to give McMurry the 2-0 lead. But, from there, the Pirates scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead for good.

McMurry did score six runs in the top of the eighth, and all came with two outs. Dylan De Leon, Matt Thompson and Ryan Slaughter each hit run-scoring doubles before Walding hit a three-run shot to cap the inning and cut the Southwestern lead to 12-10.

However, the Pirates countered with seven runs in the bottom half of the inning highlighted by Kyle Belski's bases-clearing double, which helped seal the game and moved Southwestern to 11-17 on the season. Alan Lowry was credited with the win for the Pirates while Chism Cope picked up the loss for McMurry on the mound.

McMurry fell to 12-14 on the season and heads to Temple to face Concordia-Texas for a three-game series Thursday and Friday. The games were moved from Round Rock to Temple College and Thursday's game begins at 7 p.m. with the doubleheader Friday beginning at 1 p.m.
