Tennis teams each split matches in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO - Friday both McMurry's men's and women's tennis teams split matches in San Antonio. Both teams took wins over NAIA opponent Our Lady of the Lake while NCAA Division II St. Mary's defeated both McMurry's squads.

On the women's side, Gavee Olsen, Chelsea Miller, Hillary Stone and Rachel Smith took wins on the singles court while Stone teamed up with Karlie Deiterich to win the No. 3 doubles match and take a 5-4 win over Our Lady of the Lake University.

In the 7-2 loss to St. Mary's, Stone and Deiterich defeated Morgan Riddle and Ashley Hernandez 8-6. Miller took the only win on the singles court in the No. 4 slot defeating Erica Carmona 6-1, 3-6, 10-4.

On the men's side, McMurry took five of six singles matches and won two out of three on the doubles court. Bryan Rainwater, Daniel Olivares, Tony Williams, Brent Abilez and Levi Cockrill won matches on the singles court. Will Davis and Rainwater won on the No. 1 doubles court with a convincing 8-1 victory over Stantiago Padilla and Kada Sengai. Williams and Abilez also won 8-3 on the doubles court in the No. 3 slot.

In the loss to St. Mary's, the Rattlers took a 6-3 victory by taking five of six matches on the singles court. Olivares took a win on the singles court and also teamed up with Cockrill to win in the No. 2 doubles match 8-4. Davis and Rainwater picked up the win on the doubles court as well to go 2-0 on the weekend.

McMurry will play host to Southwestern Friday and UT-Dallas Sunday at 4 p.m. and 2 p.m. respectively.
