McMurry rebounds with solid victory over ETBU, 71-53

MARSHALL, Texas - McMurry shot 43 percent from the field and out-rebounded East Texas Baptist 52-34 on the way to a 71-53 victory at Ornelas Gymnasium Thursday night. Keshia Collins scored a career-high 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds off the bench to lead McMurry back to .500 in American Southwest Conference play and overall.

McMurry improved to 4-4 overall and 3-3 in league play as the team heads to the Hoop and Surf Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii Sunday and Monday. Collins hit 7 of 10 shots from the field and four of her 10 rebounds were on the offensive side. She had help offensively from M.J. Vickers, Rikeita Thomas and Tory Salazar who all had 10 points apiece in the victory.

East Texas Baptist managed just a 27-percent shooting effort against the McMurry defense on 15 of 55 shooting and fell to 2-5 overall and 2-4 in league play. In the losing effort Brandace Latin had 15 points while Ashley Featherston added 11 points.

McMurry hit 24 of 56 shots from the floor in its second-best effort on the season for shooting percentage. Neither team helped themselves at the free-throw line; McMurry hit 21 of 38 attempts while the Tigers hit 22 of 40 shots at the charity stripe.

McMurry takes on Lake Forrest College Sunday in Honolulu, and will face No. 3 Christopher Newport Tuesday.
