SHERMAN - McMurry University's swim teams both enjoyed victories Friday evening in Sherman against Austin College with the men taking a 109-87 victory over the 'Roos while McMurry's women won 111-91.
Out of 24 combined events, McMurry took first-place finishes in 16. In the relays, McMurry split four events with AC taking the men's 200-yard medley relay and the women's 200-yard medley relay. The 'Roos
took both the men's and women's 200-yard freestyle relay.
On the men's side, Sean White and Craig Osterman each won two individual events apiece while David Richards (100-yard butterfly), Nathan Worley (100-yard backstroke), and Daniel Harber (200-yard
individual medley) all won events.
White, one of McMurry's short-distance swimmers, won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.76 and the 100-yard freestyle with a mark of 51.98 seconds. Osterman, the team's long-distance swimmer, won the
500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:20.78 and the 1,000-yard frestyle with a time of 11:07.56.
On the women's side, Elise Hager won the 200-yard freestyle for McMurry while Amber Perkins, Erin Johnson and Alex Altstaetter each won two events apiece.
Perkins won the distance races in dominating fashion. After swimming a 5:34.88 to win the 500-yard freestyle, she won the 1,000-yard freestyle with an impressive time of 11:08.95, which was 1:36.85
faster than Austin College's runner up Meaghan Gomm.
Johnson won the 50-yard freestyle (26.25) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.93) while Altstaetter won the 200-yard individual medley (2:23.01) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.40).
McMurry returns to the pool Friday in Conway, Ark. at the Hendrix College Invitational.
