McMurry runs past LeTourneau

Senior forward Jabri Butler came off the bench to score 11 points and grab six rebounds in McMurry's 85-54 win over LeTourneau Thursday.
LONGVIEW, Texas -- The McMurry women's basketball team jumped out to an 11-0 run and never looked back en route to beating LeTourneau, 85-54, in an American Southwest Conference crossover game Thursday night at Solheim Arena.

Senior guard Amber Horton scored a team-high 13 points to lead McMurry's effort past the Lady Jackets.  The conference win improves McMurry to 8-3 overall and 5-2 in conference play.  McMurry will continue its East Texas road trip on Saturday when they head to Marshall, Texas, to take on East Texas Baptist in another ASC crossover game.  Tip time is slated for 1 p.m.

McMurry jumped out of the gate early as they took a quick 11-0 lead just four minutes into the game.  McMurry and LeTourneau battled relatively evenly for the next 14 minutes of playing time as McMurry held a 13-point advantage, 35-22, with two minutes remaining until halftime.  But McMurry closed the final two minutes of the first half much like they opened the first half as they went on a 12-0 run to take a commanding 47-22 lead into the break.

McMurry continued to dictate the flow of play in the second half as they expanded their lead to 39 points, 65-26, in the first 10 minutes of the second half.  McMurry's largest lead came at the 3:37 mark when they held a 42-point advantage, 85-43.

All 15 of McMurry's players played in the game and three McMurry players scored in double figures.  Joining Horton in double figures were senior forward Jabri Butler, who came off the bench to score 11 points and grab six rebounds; and senior forward Allison Nelson, who scored 10 points and grabbed a game-high seven rebounds.

The Lady Jackets fall to 3-9 and 2-5.
