McMurry University Volleyball Head Coach Cammie Petree has added veteran coach Jon Stenman to her staff as assistant coach for the 2019-20 season.
In his first season as an assistant, the War Hawks went 18-10, 8-7 ASC. Six players were named All-ASC as the War Hawks made another ASC Tournament appearance.
Stenman has 18 years of experience as a volleyball coach with stints in every major four-year college classification (NCAA D1, D2, D3 & NAIA). Stenman comes to McMurry from Vero Beach, Florida, where he was the Indoor Club Director for the Jungle Club Volleyball Academy. Â
Before his stint with JCVA, Stenman was at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville where he served as the Assistant Volleyball Coach and as the Interim Head Volleyball Coach. Prior to UW-Platteville, Stenman was at Dickinson State University where he served as the Head Volleyball Coach and as an Instructor in their Health, Physical Education and Recreation Department. During his two years at the helm, Stenman had nine Academic All-Conference winners.Â
Prior to Dickinson State, Stenman led the Centenary College Ladies volleyball program and coached the Ladies in the college's final year of NCAA Division I and as a member of The Summit League in 2010. In 2011, he led the Ladies to a drastic improvement at 14-14. The 14 wins marked the highest single-season win total in the volleyball program's history in the last 13 years and their first season in NCAA Division III.
In 2010 and 2011, he spearheaded two squads that combined to boast 15 All-Academic All-Conference selections as the Ladies volleyball team posted a 3.4 team GPA in 2010. Nine of 11 Ladies made the All-Academic team that year.
Before joining Centenary, Stenman served as the head coach at Coker College, a Division II program, in South Carolina. Prior to becoming the head coach at Coker, Stenman came from Texas A&M University, where he was the head coach of the women's club volleyball team and physical education instructor. Stenman served as the assistant coach at Shenandoah University for four seasons before his stint at Texas A&M.
A native of Rochester, New York, Stenman has a Bachelor's of Science degree from Shenandoah and Master's of Science in Kinesiology from Texas A&M.Â
Before beginning his career as a coach and instructor, Stenman was a member of the United States Marine Corps for four years and was a two-time member of the All-Marine Volleyball team.Â
