Jeff Hancock

Jeff Hancock came to McMurry University in February of 2017, after serving as the head coach at Vidalia High School (La.) for three seasons where he worked to help rebuild the VHS program.

Prior to that Hancock was a football consultant for Siena Heights University (NAIA), as they explored the possibility of starting football.  Once football was announced, Hancock transitioned over to the Offensive Coordinator/Recruiting Coordinator position where he served for three seasons and helped to build the program into a competitor in the MSFA Conference.

Prior to that, Hancock served on staff for three seasons at Adrian College (Mich.). As the Bulldogs' offensive coordinator in his third season, he also worked as the wide receivers coach and special teams coordinator during his first year at Adrian College. In 2008, Adrian finished 20th in Division III in rushing offense with 231.1 yards per game. In addition, the team had the MIAA's leading rusher and averaged 27.8 points per game.  Hancock was also instrumental in the recruiting efforts of the football program bringing in some of the best talent in the program's history.

Before arriving at AC, Hancock helped Grand Valley State University to the 2005 NCAA Division II national championship, serving as the Lakers' tight ends coach. Grand Valley rolled up 5,612 total yards in '05 with his help. Prior to GVSU, Hancock was the offensive coordinator at the University of Saint Mary in Kansas (NAIA) for three seasons, where he spent time working with current McMurry University head coach Lance Hinson. His 2002 offense ranked eighth in the NAIA in passing.

At NCAA II Lane College in 2001, Hancock spent time as the co-offensive coordinator, implementing the spread offense. The Dragons boasted a 1,000-yard rusher in his one season. Prior to Lane, Hancock spent time at New Mexico Military Institute (NJCAA) and Louisiana Tech University (FBS) as an offensive line coach. At NMMI, he tutored a unit that led the way for 4,300 yards rushing, setting an NJCAA record and finished the season ranked #10 in the nation and winning the Empire Bowl.

Stints at Highland Community College (NJCAA) and Eastern Michigan University (FBS) from 1996 to 1998 gave Hancock experience in recruiting, special teams, and working with quarterbacks. Hancock also spent time at the high school level, serving as an offensive and defensive line coach at both Willow Run High School and Romulus High School, helping Romulus to a 9-3 record in 1992.

A published writer on the fundamentals of offensive football, Hancock's work has appeared in Gridiron Strategies and American Football Monthly. He currently serves as a member of the American Football Monthly Editorial Advisory Board and also works as a writer for TexasHSFootball.com.

Hancock graduated with a degree in psychology from Eastern Michigan University, earned his master's degree in exercise science from Louisiana Tech and received his Louisiana teaching certification from Louisiana College. Hancock and his wife, Leigh, reside in Abilene and the couple have two sons - Jonah and Landry.
