On August 12, 2014, the McMurry University Athletics family and entire campus community was saddened to learn of the passing of football student-athlete Billy Cole III in an automobile accident. He was returning to the McM campus for the opening of football practice the very next day.
Billy was a beloved member of the campus community, not just the football team. He was an outstanding student and also served others as a tutor.
While his absence will leave a physical void on the War Hawks' roster, remembrances of his infectious smile, work ethic and friendship will always fill the hearts of those who had the honor of knowing him. His love of competition and kind spirit forever remains with the War Hawks.
His biography (below) is kept as a part of our web site as a tribute to what he meant to our program here at McMurry and as a reminder that he will always be a part of the roster that counts the most: the one in our hearts!2013 season (Sophomore):Appeared in first six games before suffering a season-ending injury versus Midwestern State (10/12/13) … 21 carries for 79 yards … Six catches for 42 yards … Also had 10 total tackles on special teams (5 solo; 5 assist).
2012 season (Freshman):On the ground, carried 12 times for 35 yards (2.9 ypr) … Long rush was 16 yards … Caught 10 passes for 62 yards (6.2 ypc) … Long catch was 16 yards.
High School:A 2012 graduate of Sachse High School … Coached by Mark Behrens for two varsity seasons … A first team 5A-10 All-District selection as a senior … Twice won team’s “Top Lifter” award.
Personal:Born September 18, 1993 in Garland, Texas … Son of Billy and Barbara Cole and Tabatha Estrada … Has two younger brothers … Has worked in a t-shirt screen printing shop … A computer science major.
