War Hawks Fall to Host Oglethorpe in Salamone Invitational Opener

ATLANTA, Georgia - McMurry Men's Soccer dropped a 2-0 decision to host Oglethorpe University on Friday night in the opening round of the John P. Salamone Invitational.

Jose Sanchez started in net for the War Hawks before Enrique Cabello entered in the seventh minute, going on to record two saves across nearly 84 minutes of action.

McMurry generated dangerous early chances in the 14th and 15th minutes. Justyn Judie and Jovani Burnett each put shots on target in rapid succession off back-to-back corner kicks, but the Oglethorpe goalkeeper turned both attempts away to keep the match scoreless.

The Stormy Petrels broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute to take a 1-0 advantage into the intermission.

Judie had another opportunity blocked inside the box in the 74th minute, but Oglethorpe answered moments later with an unassisted goal to double the deficit to 2-0.

Oglethorpe finished with a 14-9 advantage in shots and a 4-2 edge in shots on goal. Judie and Carlos Guerra led McMurry with two shots apiece, while Burnett, Alexis Aguinaga, Moise Munezero, Audrick Moreno, and Nicholas Irigoyen each tallied one shot.

The War Hawks return to the pitch on Sunday, September 20th, against Emory University to wrap up their play at the John P. Salamone Invitational in Atlanta at 10:00 a.m.
