War Hawks Fall Short Against Gents at Walt Driggers Field

ABILENE, TX - It was a tough day on the diamond for our McMurry War Hawks in their doubleheader against Centenary College on April 10th at Walt Driggers Field. The Gents took both games, winning 6-4 in game one and 11-1 in game two.

Game One: Centenary College 6, McMurry 4
In the first game, Centenary struck first with two runs in the top of the third inning.

McMurry immediately answered in the bottom half of the inning when Collin Bruning hit an RBI double to bring home Beckham Paul.

The War Hawks' offense ignited in the bottom of the fifth. Following base hits from Kaden Buske and Tatum Black, Beckham Paul launched a thrilling three-run homerun to give McMurry a 4-2 advantage.

However, Centenary tied the game with two runs in the seventh inning.

The Gents then secured the 6-4 victory by adding two final runs in the top of the ninth.

Hunter Poe started on the mound for the War Hawks, pitching six strong innings, striking out eight batters, and allowing just two earned runs.

Game Two: Centenary College 11, McMurry 1
Game two of the doubleheader saw Centenary's offense come alive. The Gents scored eleven runs on fifteen hits, jumping out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning.

McMurry managed one run on six hits in the nightcap. In the bottom of the second inning, Dru Ohmstede sparked the offense with a double, and Kia'i Sylvester followed with a single. Jeremiah Enriquez then drove a sacrifice fly to center field, bringing Ohmstede home for McMurry's only run of the game.

Centenary pulled away by adding three runs in the third, two in the fourth, and four more runs across the final three innings to win 11-1.

Top Performers
Beckham Paul: Hit a crucial three-run homerun in game one and added a double in game two, finishing the day with three RBIs and two runs scored.

Hunter Poe: Delivered a strong start on the mound in game one, recording eight strikeouts over six innings while allowing only two earned runs.

Dru Ohmstede: Paced the offense in game two with a pair of doubles and scored the War Hawks' lone run of the contest.

Collin Bruning: Consistently reached base, recording an RBI double and two walks in game one, plus an additional hit in game two.

The War Hawks will complete their series against the Gents, Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
