ABILENE, TX - The McMurry War Hawks completed their conference series against Centenary College on April 11 at Walt Driggers Field. The final score was 6-2 in favor of McMurry, improving their overall record to 15-17 and their conference record to 12-13, keeping them in the hunt for the conference tournament.
The game remained scoreless through the first two innings.
Hagen Tate started on the mound for McMurry, shutting down the Centenary offense early.
McMurry scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the third inning, taking a 1-0 lead.
Kaden Buske singled to get on base.
Beckham Paul followed up with a single to score Buske.
Both teams were held scoreless in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. Tate continued his strong start, finishing his outing with five strikeouts and only three hits allowed over six innings.
Centenary responded in the top of the seventh inning, taking a 2-1 lead. The Gents scored on an error to tie the game, then brought another run in on a groundout later in the inning.
Cole Prasse entered in the seventh, pitching 2.0 innings in relief following Tate.
McMurry rallied in the bottom of the eighth inning, exploding for five runs to reclaim the lead.
Collin Bruning reached on a fielder's choice to score
Tatum Black and tie the game at 2-2.
Blake Risko hit a single to bring in Bruning, making the score 3-2.
Kia'i Sylvester then hit a clutch single to score Risko and
Mason Schultz, extending the lead to 5-2. Buske added another single to bring in
Dru Ohmstede, pushing the score to 6-2.
Adam Trevino came in to pitch the ninth inning. He struck out two batters and allowed zero hits to secure the 6-2 win for McMurry.
Top Performers
Hagen Tate: Pitched 6.0 strong innings, allowing just three hits and one earned run while striking out five batters.
Kia'i Sylvester: Led the offense by going 3-for-4 at the plate, including a critical two-RBI single in the eighth inning.
Kaden Buske: Went 2-for-4 with an RBI and scored two runs to help spark the War Hawk offense.
Beckham Paul: Finished the day 2-for-4 and drove in McMurry's first run of the game.

McMurry plays Hardin-Simmons at Hunter Field on Monday, April 13th, at 6:00 p.m. before they open a pivotal home conference series against Schreiner on the weekend.
