CLARKSVILLE, AR - The McMurry War Hawks faced off against The University of theOzarks at Lonnie Qualls Field to wrap up their weekend series. The final score was 13-8 in favor of McMurry.
McMurry exploded out of the gate, charging to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
Tatum Black raced home on an error for the game's first run, setting the tone.
Kia'i Sylvester ripped a single to left center, driving in
Scout Smith and
Collin Bruning.
Blake Risko lifted a sacrifice fly with authority, bringing
Dru Ohmstede across the plate.
In the second inning, the War Hawks built momentum.
Dru Ohmstede reached on an error, letting
Collin Bruning score and extending the lead to 5-0.
Building on their early advantage, McMurry's bats erupted in the third, erupting for five electric runs.
Tatum Black smashed a two-run double, sending
Jeremiah Enriquez and
Blake Risko home.
Collin Bruning followed with a scorching RBI single that plated
Kaden Buske.
Dru Ohmstede capped the outburst with a clutch two-run single, bringing Bruning and Black home and blowing the game wide open at 10-0.
Ozarks got on the board in the fifth inning with an RBI double, making it 10-1. They added four more runs in the sixth inning, including a three-run homer, narrowing the McMurry lead to 10-5.
In the eighth inning, the home team continued to chip away at the lead with back-to-back solo home runs, cutting the deficit to 10-7.
McMurry responded in the top of the ninth inning to secure the win. First,
Collin Bruning hit a two-run single to score
Beckham Paul and
Tatum Black. Then,
Dru Ohmstede reached on an error, bringing in Bruning to extend the lead to 13-7. In the bottom of the ninth, Ozarks managed a solo home run, but the War Hawks closed out the game, finalizing the score at 13-8.
