A Tale of Two Games: McMurry Bounces Back to Route Ozarks

CLARKSVILLE, AR - It was a split doubleheader for our McMurry War Hawks on the road against the University of the Ozarks on March 6th. The Ozarks took game one 10-1, but the War Hawks bounced back aggressively to dominate game two, winning 15-3.

Game 1: Ozarks 10, McMurry 1
In the first game, the Ozarks jumped out to an early lead with a two-run homer to left field in the bottom of the first inning. McMurry's lone run of the ballgame came in the top of the third inning. Kaden Buske singled to the pitcher, stole second base, advanced to third on a catcher's error, and then scored on a Tatum Black RBI groundout to shortstop.

The Ozarks' offense pulled away later in the game, scoring three runs in the fifth inning on a three-run home run. They sealed the game with a five-run seventh inning, highlighted by multiple RBI fielder's choices and a two-run single. Hunter Poe started on the mound for the War Hawks, taking the loss after pitching six innings and striking out six.

Game 2: McMurry 15, Ozarks 3
Game two of the doubleheader saw McMurry's offense come alive in a massive way, pounding out 14 hits in an eight-inning, 15-3 victory. The War Hawks wasted no time, plating three runs in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by Scout Smith and a two-run home run by Dru Ohmstede. Tatum Black kept the momentum going in the second inning with a three-run blast to left-center, extending the lead to 6-0.

After Ozarks scored twice in the second, McMurry exploded for five in the third, including a Buske RBI double, Smith's bases-loaded walk, a run on a passed ball, and Ohmstede's two-run single. Smith added an RBI single in the fourth, making it 12-2.

Collin Bruning put the game completely out of reach in the eighth inning with a three-run home run to right field, bringing the final tally to 15-3. Braydon Durst earned the win on the mound, striking out five batters over five innings of work. Cole Prasse was electric in relief, securing the save by pitching three hitless, scoreless innings while striking out six.
