ABILENE, TX - The McMurry War Hawks faced off against Hendrix College on Sunday afternoon, at Walt Driggers Field. The final score was 16-11 in favor of McMurry, securing a three-game series sweep against the conference foe, pushing their record to 11-13 overall and 9-9 in SCAC play.
McMurry got on the board early in the bottom of the first inning.
Chase Lynch reached base on an error, bringing
Collin Bruning across the plate for the first run.
Kia'i Sylvester followed with a single, scoring
Dru Ohmstede to give McMurry a 2-0 lead.
After Hendrix scored a run in the top of the second on a passed ball, the War Hawks' offense exploded for eight runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Noah Solis sparked the massive rally with a solo home run. Moments later,
Collin Bruning launched a grand slam, bringing in
Beckham Paul,
Tatum Black, and
Kaden Buske.
Blake Risko added a two-run single to score
Kia'i Sylvester and
Chase Lynch, and
Tatum Black hit an RBI single to score
Kaden Buske, extending the lead to 10-1.
The War Hawks continued their offensive clinic in the third inning.
Dru Ohmstede hit an RBI single to score
Collin Bruning, and
Chase Lynch singled to bring in Ohmstede, pushing the advantage to 12-1.
Hendrix attempted to rally with three runs in the top of the fourth, but McMurry responded immediately. For the second time in the game,
Collin Bruning blasted a grand slam, once again scoring
Beckham Paul,
Tatum Black, and
Kaden Buske to make it a commanding 16-4 game.
Hendrix chipped away at the lead throughout the middle and late innings, scoring two runs in the fifth, two in the sixth, two in the seventh, and one in the eighth inning. However,
Adam Trevino shut the door in the top of the ninth inning, striking out all three batters he faced to secure the 16-11 victory.
Top Performers
Collin Bruning: Went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, plus 2 walks, scoring four runs and driving in an incredible eight RBIs on two grand slams and two doubles.
Hagen Tate: Earned his third win of the season, pitching four innings, allowing just two hits, and striking out six batters.
Kia'i Sylvester: Contributed heavily to the offense, going 3-for-4 with one run scored, one RBI, and a stolen base.
Noah Solis: Hit a solo home run, finishing the game with one hit, one run, and one RBI.
