War Hawks Bats Catch Fire in 15-6 Rout of TLU in Series Finale

SEGUIN, TX - The McMurry War Hawks faced off against Texas Lutheran on Sunday at Katt-Isbel Field to close out their road conference series. The final score was 15-6 in favor of McMurry. The victory moves the War Hawks to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

Texas Lutheran scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the second inning on a sacrifice fly, taking an early 1-0 lead.

McMurry got on the board and took the lead in the top of the third inning. Kaden Buske scored on a wild pitch to tie the game. Scout Smith then hit a double to center field, scoring Collin Bruning and Tatum Black to give the War Hawks a 3-1 advantage.

The War Hawks broke the game open in the top of the fifth inning, exploding for six runs. Tanner Hollis doubled to right-center to score Jeremiah Enriquez. Later in the inning, Black drew a bases-loaded walk to bring Hollis home. Bruning followed up with a two-run double to left field, scoring Beckham Paul and Kia'i Sylvester. Smith capped off the inning with a single through the left side, driving in Bruning and Black to extend the lead to 9-1.

Texas Lutheran responded with one run in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI groundout, making it 9-2.

McMurry continued their offensive dominance in the top of the sixth, adding another six runs. Paul hit into a fielder's choice that allowed Hollis to score. Black then singled to center field, bringing in Paul and Sylvester. Smith hit his second RBI double of the day to score Black. Chase Lynch followed with a pinch-hit, two-run single to center field, scoring Smith and Bruning to push the lead to 15-2.

The Bulldogs rallied for four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to narrow the deficit to 15-6, highlighted by a two-run triple. However, McMurry's pitching shut the door for the remainder of the game. Starting pitcher Hagen Tate earned the win, while Adam Trevino pitched the final three innings flawlessly to earn the save.


Top Performers

Scout Smith: Led the offense by going 4-for-6 with two doubles, one run scored, and five RBI.
Collin Bruning: Went 3-for-4 with a double, drawing one walk, scoring three runs, and driving in two RBI.
Tatum Black: Contributed with one hit, three walks, three runs scored, and three RBI.
Adam Trevino: Pitched three perfect innings in relief, allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out six batters to secure the save.

Baseball will play its home opener at Walt Driggers Field on Tuesday, February 17th, against the Cowboys of Hardin-Simmons at 7:00 p.m.
