SEGUIN, TX - It was a tough day on the diamond for our McMurry War Hawks in their conference doubleheader against Texas Lutheran on February 13th in Seguin. Texas Lutheran took both games, with scores of 6-2 in game one and 11-1 in game two.
Game 1: TLU 6, McMurry 2
In the first game, McMurry jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
Tatum Black was hit by a pitch, advanced to second on an error, and eventually scored on a fielding error to put the War Hawks on the board. Starting pitcher
Hunter Poe kept Texas Lutheran scoreless through the first three innings. McMurry extended their lead to 2-0 in the fourth inning.
Caden Roy hit a single,
Kia'i Sylvester drew a walk, and
Kaden Buske followed with an RBI single up the middle to bring Roy home.
Texas Lutheran responded with one run in the bottom of the fourth inning and took the lead with two runs in the sixth inning.
Hunter Poe pitched six innings for the War Hawks, allowing three runs on seven hits and striking out three batters. Texas Lutheran added three more runs in the eighth inning off relief pitcher
David Perez to secure the 6-2 victory.
Game 2: TLU 11, McMurry 1Â
Game two of the doubleheader saw Texas Lutheran's offense come alive early, scoring two runs in the first inning. McMurry got on the board in the top of the third inning.
Kaden Buske hit a single,
Beckham Paul walked, and
Tatum Black laid down a bunt single to load the bases.
Noah Solis reached on a fielding error, allowing Buske to score the War Hawks' lone run of the game.
Texas Lutheran broke the game open with a six-run bottom of the third inning.
Braydon Durst started on the mound for McMurry, pitching 2.2 innings and striking out three batters.
Brady Henderson pitched in relief, and
G'anni Cade tossed a scoreless sixth inning for the War Hawks. Offensively,
Scout Smith hit a double in the fifth inning, but McMurry was unable to generate more runs, falling 11-1.
Top Performers
Kaden Buske: Was a consistent force at the plate, recording three hits across the doubleheader, including the team's lone RBI in game one and scoring two of McMurry's three runs on the day.
Hunter Poe: Delivered a competitive start in the opener, pitching 6.0 innings and striking out three while keeping the War Hawks in the game through the first six frames.
Tatum Black: Reached base multiple times, recording two hits, a stolen base, and scoring a run in the first inning of game one.
Beckham Paul: Anchored the top of the lineup with three hits over the two games and provided steady defense in center field.
