Box Score COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – The McMurry War Hawks put up a hard fight on the road Friday night, falling to Colorado College 63-85 at Reid Arena. Despite the final score, McMurry played with high energy and used a strong defensive press to stay competitive until the final minutes.
The War Hawks relied on their ability to get to the rim and find points in the paint. The team's active defense led to 11 steals, which helped jumpstart the transition game. McMurry also fought hard for every board, finishing with 38 total rebounds and turning those extra possessions into 12 second-chance points.
Aryana Cleveland led the way for the War Hawks, finishing with 18 points. Cleveland was efficient near the basket, knocking down nine shots from the floor. She remained active on the glass with four total rebounds and played a big role in the team's defensive pressure, recording two steals and a block.
Helana Chadwick provided a much-needed offensive spark, scoring 15 points. Chadwick was perfect from the free-throw line, going 3-for-3, and helped move the ball with a team-high two assists. She also made an impact on the defensive end with two steals while playing heavy minutes on the road.
Amaris Valadez rounded out the top performers, chipping in nine points. Valadez was a force on the boards, leading the team with seven total rebounds. Her defensive energy fit right in with the team's identity, as she also recorded two steals to help spark the War Hawks' break.
