Late Surge Lifts Colorado College Over McMurry

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - The McMurry War Hawks men's basketball team showed grit on the road Friday night, battling through a tough conference matchup before ultimately falling 80-67 to Colorado College at Reid Arena to move their record to 6-10 overall (1-6 SCAC).

The War Hawks found early success, taking a brief lead in the opening minutes. However, the Tigers quickly seized momentum with a 7-0 run to build a double-digit advantage. McMurry refused to go quietly, orchestrating a massive 10-0 scoring surge to claw back into contention. While the War Hawks were efficient inside, scoring 36 points in the paint, they struggled to find their rhythm from beyond the arc, shooting just 22.7% for the contest.

McMurry's defensive pressure kept the game within reach for much of the night, forcing 14 Tiger turnovers and converting those opportunities into 13 points. Despite the loss, the War Hawks' bench provided a significant spark with 15 points, while the team's transition game remained a threat, accounting for seven fast-break points.

Top War Hawk Performers
Koye Rondeno: Led the offensive effort for McMurry with 16 points, shooting an efficient 5-of-9 from the field. He was nearly automatic at the charity stripe, sinking 5-of-6 free-throw attempts, and added a steal on the defensive end.

Jordan Malveaux: Provided high-energy play off the bench, matching the team high with 16 points while contributing three rebounds and two assists.

Jalen Cherry: Logged over 34 minutes of action, totaling 12 points and leading the team on the glass with six rebounds. He also showcased his defensive versatility with a game-high seven steals.

Amari Leflore: Rounded out the double-digit scorers with 13 points. He was perfect from the free-throw line (2-for-2) and contributed four rebounds and two steals in the effort.
