ABILENE, TX - The McMurry War Hawks secured a thrilling five-set victory over the Concordia University Texas Tornados on Saturday, winning the conference contest with dramatic set scores of 25-19, 22-25, 25-14, 16-25, and 15-10. The hard-fought win improves the War Hawks' season record to 7-4 (1-2 in conference play).
The War Hawk offense was a powerhouse, fueled by three players reaching double-digit kills. Marcette Williams and Madi Polasek led the charge with 11 kills apiece, with Polasek hitting an impressive .357 for the match. Rylie Patterson was not far behind, contributing 10 kills on a solid .290 hitting percentage. The attack was effectively distributed by Carli Colbert, who paced the team with 22 assists, and Alexis Dolton, who added 18 assists.
From the service line, McMurry was aggressive, tallying 13 total aces. Dolton and Patterson led the way with three aces each, followed by Jalie Miller and Isabela Dorsey with two apiece. Defensively, Miller anchored the back row with a team-high 18 digs, and Dorsey was active with 17 digs. The War Hawks were also dominant at the net, accumulating 11 total blocks. Williams was involved in a team-high five block assists, while Patterson and Colbert each contributed three block assists.
After taking a dominant 25-19 win in the first set, the War Hawks dropped the tightly contested second set 22-25. They responded emphatically in the third, winning 25-14, before falling in the fourth 16-25. In the decisive fifth set, McMurry took control with crucial kills from Williams and Patterson to seal the 15-10 victory and the match win.
McMurry heads to Howard Payne for a non-conference clash on Tuesday, September 30Â at Brownwood Coliseum at 6:00 p.m.
