ABILENE, TX - The McMurry men's soccer team earned a hard-fought 4-3 victory over East Texas Baptist on Thursday night at Wilford Moore Stadium.
East Texas Baptist took an early lead, but the War Hawks responded in the 30th minute when Yanez scored the first of his three goals on the night, tying the game 1-1.
The Tigers scored early in the second half to take a 2-1 lead, but Yanez found the back of the net again in the 53rd minute to tie the game once again. Jordan Katende gave the War Hawks the lead with a goal in the 58th minute. A penalty kick was awarded to the Tigers, tying the game 3-3 in the 80th minute, but Yanez scored his third goal of the contest, completing a hat trick with an assist from Justyn Judie in the 85th minute, sealing the McMurry victory.
The War Hawks' offense outshot the Tigers 14-13 with nine shots on goal.
McMurry's next contest is on the road against Howard Payne next Thursday, September 18, in Brownwood with a 7:30 p.m. start.
