DANVILLE, VA - The War Hawks had a great second day at the 31st Annual Cougar Classic, improving to 3-1 on the season.
In the morning, the War Hawks secured a solid four-set victory over the Roanoke Maroons on Saturday, winning 25-20, 20-25, 25-21, 25-14.
Offensively, the War Hawks were led by
Shaely Rogers, who had a standout performance with a team-high 13 kills and a stellar .313 hitting percentage.
Rylie Patterson and
Marcette Williams were also key contributors with 11 kills each, and setters
Alexis Dolton (23 assists) and
Carli Colbert (15 assists) orchestrated the attack.
The War Hawks' serving was particularly effective, with
Isabela Dorsey leading the way with five aces and Dolton adding four. On defense, Dorsey anchored the back row with a team-high 17 digs, while Rogers contributed 15 and Dolton had 10.
In the afternoon match, McMurry defeated the Methodist Monarchs in four sets on Saturday with scores of 25-18, 25-25, 22-25, and 25-18.
Leading the offense was
Annikah Frank with a team-high 14 kills and a .375 hitting percentage.
Shaely Rogers added nine kills with a strong .360 hitting percentage, while
Rylie Patterson contributed eight kills on a stellar .462 hitting percentage. The attack was set up by
Alexis Dolton, who had 22 assists, and
Carli Colbert, who added 19.
The War Hawks were dominant from the service line, recording 13 aces. Dolton led the way with 8, and Dorsey added 2. On defense,
Jalie Miller anchored the back row with 13 digs, with Rogers and Dorsey each contributing 12. The team also had eight blocks.
After winning the first two sets, McMurry dropped the third but rallied in the fourth with a 14-2 run to seal the match.
After returning home from Danville, the War Hawks will next travel to Jackson, Mississippi, to take part in the Millsaps College Tournament to face off against Lyon College, University of Dallas, Belhaven University, and Huntingdon College.
