McMurry Sweeps Ozarks, Extends Series Win Streak

Clarksville, AR - The McMurry War Hawks defeated the University of the Ozarks by a score of 8-5 to complete the series sweep and their sixth straight series win.

McMurry's offense ignited in the top of the first inning when Riley Hood tripled to center field, driving in Ty Nelson and Koy Carpenter. Collin Bruning followed up with a ground out to first base, bringing home Riley Hood, giving McMurry an early 3-0 lead. Ozarks responded in the bottom of the first inning, bringing in a run of their own, making the score 3-1.  

Ozarks added to their score in the bottom of the 2nd inning with a 2-run home run and an RBI triple to gain the upper hand, 4-3. However, Collin Bruning homered in the top of the 3rd inning, tying the game at 4-4.

Ty Nelson singled to left field in the top of the 4th inning, scoring Blake Beach and putting McMurry back in front 5-4.  

The War Hawks increased their lead in the top of the 6th inning as Carson Jones doubled down the left field line, driving in Blake Beach. Riley Hood then singled to right field, scoring Carson Jones, and Ty Nelson scored on a passed ball, pushing McMurry's lead to 8-4.  

Ozarks scored one more run in the bottom of the 8th inning, making the final score 8-5.  

Hunter Poe started on the mound for McMurry, pitching six innings, allowing four runs, and striking out two to earn the win. Gabriel Aragon pitched the final three innings in relief and earned his first save of the season.

This win brings McMurry's record to 28-9 overall and 19-8 in the SCAC. The War Hawks return home to Walt Driggers Field next Friday, April 25th at 7:00 p.m. to close the regular season with a series against Centenary College. They close the regular season with a doubleheader on April 26th with a senior recognition ceremony between games.
