Abilene, TX - The McMurry War Hawks opened up the final regular season series against Centenary College and came away with a 7-5 victory.
Centenary scored the game's first runs in the top of the 2nd inning.
McMurry got on the board in the bottom of the 3rd inning when Ty Nelson reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Blake Beach, making the score 2-1.
Xavier Escobar homered in the bottom of the 5th inning, tying the game 2-2.
McMurry took the lead in the bottom of the 6th inning, scoring five runs. With runners at second and third, Centenary's catcher committed a passed ball, allowing Collin Bruning to score. Josh Mueller then singled, driving in Nolan Scherencel. Blake Beach followed with a 2-run triple, scoring Mueller and Scherencel. Escobar hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Blake Beach, making it 7-2.
Centenary rallied in the top of the 8th, scoring three runs to bring the score to 7-5.
However, McMurry and Bryson Morrill held Centenary scoreless in the top of the 9th, securing the 7-5 victory. Morrill picked up his eighth save on the season.
Ethan Wendel started on the mound for McMurry, pitching seven innings and allowing two runs.
