McMurry splits double-header with Dallas

Box Score The War Hawks split their double-header with Dallas on Saturday. McMurry improved to 6-2 overall & 3-2 in conference play.

GAME 1: McMurry dropped the first game of their double-header on Saturday afternoon against Dallas.

The War Hawks got off to a solid start in this one as they took a 3-0 lead right out of the gate in the bottom of the first inning. Dallas responded and put up 4 in the top of the second. The see-saw continued to go back-and-forth as McMurry plated across 2 in the 3rd inning, along with Dallas scoring 1 in the 3rd.

A third of the way through the game, we were deadlocked at 5 runs apiece. 6 runs over the next 2 frames for the Crusaders blew the game wide open as the War Hawks were staring at a 5 run deficit. 4 runs in the 9th for Dallas helped them get enough insurance to hold off a late McMurry rally as Dallas went on to win by a score of 15-10.

McMurry scored 10 runs on 11 hits with 2 errors, while Dallas scored 15 runs on 16 hits with 1 error.

KEY CONTRIBUTORS: Ty Nelson had 3 hits; Collin Bruning had 2 RBIs, & Riley Hood scored 2 runs.

GAME 2: The War Hawks got off to a solid start again in game 2. They plated across a run in each of the first two innings to take a 2-0 lead into the third inning of play. A scoreless third inning from both squads would send us to the middle section of the contest with the score remaining 2-0 in favor of the War Hawks.

McMurry would get another run across in the bottom of the 4th as they looked to try to distance themselves from the Crusaders but they were able to limit the damage as the War Hawks led 3-0 after 4 innings. Dallas left a runner in scoring position in the top half of the 5th as the McMurry pitching and defense shined once again, sending us to the bottom half of the 5th with the shutout still intact.

An empty 5th, 6th, and 7th inning lead us to the 8th with the score remaining at 3-0 as we entered the final stretch of the game. The War Hawks added 7 more in the 8th inning to put the game away as they went on to win by a score of 10-0 after 8 innings.

McMurry had 10 runs on 8 hits and 1 error, while Dallas had 0 runs on 4 hits with 1 error.

The War Hawks are back in action tomorrow at 2:00pm in the final game of the series against Dallas as they look to earn the series win.
