War Hawks Gain Valuable Minutes Against Strong Division I Opponent

Box Score

ABILENE, TX – The McMurry War Hawks women's basketball team faced a significant challenge in a road exhibition game against Abilene Christian University at Moody Coliseum, falling 112-60. Despite the final score, the War Hawks executed well offensively in the first half and gained invaluable experience against the Division I opponent.

The War Hawks came out aggressively, briefly taking a lead early in the first quarter, before ACU responded with devastating efficiency, ending the first half leading 66-35. McMurry found success by attacking the interior and getting to the free-throw line early, going 7-for-10 (70%) from the line in the first half alone. The team continued to shoot efficiently in the third quarter, hitting 50% from the field and matching ACU's pace with 21 points. However, the Wildcats' strong shooting (58.3% for the game) and strong second-chance opportunities ultimately proved too difficult to overcome.

Overall, the War Hawks showed strong effort in key areas, forcing 19 turnovers and finishing the game shooting 72.7% (16-of-22) from the free-throw line. The exhibition provided significant minutes for the entire squad against a high-caliber opponent, preparing them for the upcoming conference schedule.
