Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Casey Jones, McMurry Sports Information

War Hawks Fall to Southwestern in Overtime

GEORGETOWN, TX – The McMurry War Hawks men's basketball team showcased incredible grit and fighting spirit in a road battle against Southwestern University, ultimately falling 88-82 in a tense overtime period. Despite controlling most of the game in regulation time and winning the rebounding battle, the War Hawks couldn't convert the final possessions needed to secure the victory.

The War Hawks executed well early, using aggressive interior play and rebounding to surge ahead and establish their largest first-half lead of 10 points. Southwestern countered with consistent perimeter shooting (46.5% from the field), forcing the game into a tense back-and-forth.

The difference in the game came down to margins and efficiency in the critical moments. While McMurry was excellent on the glass, securing 44 total rebounds, the Pirates forced more turnovers (16 to 12), which proved costly. The War Hawks relied heavily on their ability to create extra opportunities, resulting in 15 crucial second-chance points. Despite their collective effort to force overtime, the Pirates ultimately edged out the win in the extra frame.
