War Hawks Fall Just Short Against Hardin-Simmons

ABILENE, TX – In a high energy home matchup at Kimbrell Arena, the McMurry War Hawks fell just short in a 91-82 contest against Hardin-Simmons. Despite a determined offensive performance that saw the team battle through multiple lead changes, the War Hawks were unable to overcome a late push from their opponents.

The War Hawks established their presence early, utilizing a powerful 15-0 scoring run to build momentum and take control of the pace. The game was a back-and-forth struggle featuring six ties, as McMurry relied on aggressive play near the basket and a dominant showing at the free-throw line to keep the pressure on. McMurry's second chance opportunities were a major factor in the game, as the team outscored their opponents 29-10 in that category.

Koye Rondeno delivered a strong performance, leading the team with 31 points. He successfully converted 18 of 21 free-throw attempts. Rondeno also contributed four rebounds and a steal, playing a pivotal role in the team's ability to maintain offensive pressure throughout both periods.

Jalen Cherry was equally influential, providing a versatile presence on the court. He finished the night with 12 points and secured a team high 11 rebounds to complete a double-double. Cherry's defensive contributions were vital, as he led the team with five assists and added a steal and a block to his stat line.

Zack Rygg provided a reliable spark, finishing with 12 points of his own. Rygg was effective from beyond the arc, hitting two three-pointers, and was nearly perfect from the free-throw line, going 4-for-7. His performance was balanced by three rebounds and an assist, helping the War Hawks stay competitive until the final buzzer.

The War Hawks' offense remained productive throughout, shooting 77.1% as a team from the free-throw line.
