ABILENE, TX - The McMurry War Hawks fought hard against a tough Texas Lutheran team but ultimately fell 42-13 in a game defined by big plays from the opposition and a persistent effort from the War Hawks' offense and defense. Despite the final score, the War Hawks showed resolve, driven by strong special teams play and moments of offensive brilliance.
Quarterback Dylan Plake completed 15 passes for 123 yards and the team's sole touchdown. Plake distributed the ball effectively, connecting with Thomas Chandler on a 42-yard touchdown strike. Chandler was the leading receiver with five catches for 45 yards, complementing the four receptions each from Karmelus Card (45 yards) and Tedrick Williams (32 yards). Quarterback Glenn Rice also completed three passes for 14 yards, contributing to the 137 total passing yards for the War Hawks. The rushing attack, though facing stiff opposition, gained 88 net yards, led by Rice's 47 yards and Corey Layne's 20 yards on the ground.
The defense fought tirelessly throughout the contest, highlighted by a key turnover when Ryland Hurst intercepted a pass, returning it 12 yards to stop an early threat. The unit was anchored by the tackling of Bryce Neves (eight total tackles) and Dylon Davis (six total tackles). Bryce Neves also provided a critical special teams block, rejecting a point-after-touchdown attempt. Jackson Harris and Dorian LeBlanc each recorded a sack as the defensive line worked hard to get pressure on the TLU offense.
Special teams were a bright spot for the War Hawks. Kicker Jax Rodriguez delivered a perfect day, converting both of his field goal attempts from 34 yards and 44 yards, showing off his range and reliability. Rodriguez also punted five times, dropping one inside the 20-yard line and connecting on a 51-yard long punt to help manage field position. On returns, Jadyn Pruitt provided solid kickoff returns, including one for 35 yards.
The War Hawks finish off the regular season against Hendrix College at home next Saturday, November 8, for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff, before ending the regular season at War Memorial in Little Rock, Arkansas, for SCAC Championship weekend, November 15.
