SHERMAN, TX - The McMurry War Hawks put together a fantastic performance to secure a 31-13 victory over Austin on the road. The win was fueled by an explosive aerial attack, clutch rushing touchdowns, and a relentless defensive effort that controlled the game's tempo.
The War Hawks' offense was highly efficient, racking up 380 net passing yards on the day. Quarterback Dylan Plake was exceptional, completing 27 of 40 passes for 348 yards and two touchdowns without throwing an interception. Chris Teten also contributed a 32-yard completion, showing off the team's depth under center.
The big plays started early, capped by Corey Layne's initial 9-yard rushing touchdown. The passing game quickly found rhythm, with Plake connecting with Thomas Chandler for a 10-yard touchdown strike. Later in the second period, Plake found Kam Carrington for a huge 37-yard touchdown completion. Thomas Chandler was Plake's primary target, leading all receivers with nine catches for 123 yards and a touchdown. Omari Johnson added 54 receiving yards, and Jadyn Pruitt secured 51 yards, keeping the chains moving across the field. Jaden Tackett-Jewel capped off another scoring drive with a 2-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
While the offense put up points, the defense kept Austin College in check. The unit limited the opposition to just 141 passing yards on the day and forced a critical turnover. Leading the defensive effort was Brayden Youree with nine total tackles, closely followed by Bryce Neves, who recorded eight tackles, including two for loss, for 10 yards. Jackson Preng provided a massive defensive highlight, registering a sack for an 11-yard loss and forcing a fumble recovered by the War Hawks' defensive unit. Dylon Davis also secured an interception to halt an Austin drive.
On special teams, kicker Jax Rodriguez was perfect on the day, converting all four of his PATs and drilling his only field goal attempt from 33 yards. Punting specialist Jax Rodriguez averaged 39.0 yards per attempt and successfully pinned the opponent inside the 20-yard line twice. Omari Johnson delivered strong returns, collecting a team-high 58 yards on kickoff returns.
The commanding victory continues the War Hawks' strong play in conference. They will look to continue their winning ways against Centenary College next Saturday, October 25, at 5:00 p.m. at Mayo Field in Shreveport, Louisiana.
