ABILENE, TX - The McMurry War Hawks dominated their Homecoming game against Lyon College, delivering an overwhelming 65-7 victory built on a stunning 621 yards of total offense and five rushing touchdowns. The win marked a dominant offensive performance across all four quarters of play.
The offense exploded early, quickly establishing control over the game. Quarterback Dylan Plake was sharp, leading the charge with a 37-yard touchdown pass to Omari Johnson to open the scoring. On the next possession, Corey Layne punched in a 9-yard rushing touchdown. The War Hawks then shifted gears, with Plake connecting with Rhett Butler for a 22-yard aerial score, and quarterback Glenn Rice getting involved with a 3-yard touchdown pass to Karmelus Card. Tedrick Williams capped off the initial surge with a 3-yard rushing touchdown.
The scoring onslaught continued, fueled by the dynamic play of quarterback Glenn Rice, who finished the day with 294 yards and two touchdowns, complementing Dylan Plake's 200 yards and two touchdowns. The rushing attack was highly effective, totaling 127 yards and five touchdowns. Glenn Rice added two rushing touchdowns to his tally, while James Garza and Jackson Stroud each contributed a rushing score.
The receiving corps put on a clinic. Omari Johnson led the team with 104 yards on five catches, including his early touchdown. Thomas Chandler amassed 85 yards, while Karmelus Card followed closely with 76 yards and a touchdown. Marcus Maple broke free for the game's longest passing touchdown, a massive 57-yard strike from Glenn Rice, totaling 66 yards and a touchdown for the day.
On the defensive side, the War Hawks were relentless, holding the opponent to just 38 rushing yards and recording three total sacks for 19 lost yards. Jackson Harris was outstanding, recording a sack and two tackles for loss. Eric Tonche and Trevor Bolden also added sacks to help shut down the opposing attack. Safety Xavier Rodriguez sealed the defensive effort with an interception. The defense ensured that Lyon College's single touchdown came late in the fourth quarter.
The War Hawks' special teams unit also contributed a safety on a blocked punt by Jackson Stroud, adding two points to the overwhelming victory. Jax Rodriguez was perfect on the day, converting all nine of his PAT attempts.
The War Hawks head to Sherman, Texas, next Saturday at 1:00 p.m. to continue SCAC play against Austin College at Jerry Apple Stadium.
