HOUSTON- McMurry women's gets another big conference win on the road against St. Thomas in Houston. The War Hawks advanced to 10-2 overall & 3-0 in conference play, while St. Thomas fell to 3-9 overall & 1-4 in conference play.Â
McMurry had a big first quarter, coming into the game riding momentum from their previous contests to use a big start to jump ahead of the Celts. McMurry led at the end of the first quarter by a score of 22-10.Â
In the second quarter, The Celts closed the gap (and then some) with the War Hawks. St. Thomas was able to string some strong offensive possessions together, as well as tightening up on the defensive end of the floor. The Celts would outscore the War Hawks in the second quarter, giving them a one point lead going into the locker room at halftime.Â
McMurry found their groove offensively in the third quarter and found a way to get big buckets on the offensive end. Both defenses stepped up and got some key stops to prevent either team from getting much separation in the score. St. Thomas out scored McMurry in the 3rd quarter by a score of 19-16, setting up a huge 4th quarter with the Celts leading by 4.Â
McMurry was able to do what they do best, find ways to score and get big stops on the defensive end. The War Hawks have shown that they are able to win close games and find a way to finish them out down the stretch with their shooting & defense. McMurry was able to seal the game with a few key possessions in the final minutes of the game, leading them to a 58-49 victory. Â
McMurry was led by Emily Holland with 15 points & followed by Helena Chadwick with 13 points, while St. Thomas was led by Amyia Bowie with 18 points.Â
The War Hawks are back in action on Sunday on the road against Colorado College at 1pm.Â
