ABILENE – The McMurry men's soccer season begins Friday at 7:30 p.m. when it hosts Lyon College.
 
It will be the first regular season match for both teams.

PLEASED TO MEET YOU: This will be the first meeting in men's soccer between the two schools. It's the second year in a row the War Hawks have opened with a first-time opponent. McMurry beat Millsaps 1-0 last season in a season-opening trip to Mississippi.
 
NEW LEAGUE: The War Hawks are new members in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference this season. McMurry is picked to finish 11th in a preseason poll of SCAC men's soccer coaches.
 
STARTERS BACK: Team leaders Trey Castillo, Danny Chavez and Herbie Martinez return, along with 2023 starting defender Derek Martinez.
 
SCOUTING LYON: Lyon is the preseason favorite to win the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Scots were 11-6-1 last season. The Scots return eight starters including All-Conference performers Erick Oliveria, Gabriel Rangel, and Filipe Santana De Oliveira. Other returners include Tomas Biasi, Lucas Crivilatti, Matheus Nunes, Micah Rangel, and Nate Peterson.
