ABILENE – When McMurry football players report for preseason practices in a few weeks, they will be welcomed home to a new locker room.
Â
New lockers replace the concrete structure but the expanded room also includes new lighting, graphics and a nod to better health.
Â
"One of the features that I love is that there's an air filtration system that goes throughout all the lockers to the top and through the foot," said McMurry head football coach
Jordan Neal. "So, you know, staph infections and all the grunge and the grime that gets on the shoulder pads, in the helmets, we're able to mitigate and knock a lot of that stuff down with the air filtration system and so it's going to be easier to maintain and keep it looking sharp."
Â
The project was the product of generosity and success.
Â
"We've had a lot of generosity and a lot of support from our donors, from our alumni," Neal said. "It helps that we had a good season. There's just a lot of good feelings about that and a lot of support that was generated from the winning feelings. Having this locker room and this space like it is now, it's a game-changer for us. It's been a great recruiting tool and it adds to the hype. We obviously wanted something that was going to be sleek, that was going to be updated, and was going to be modern-looking. I think we were able to get that done."
