ABILENE – McMurry Women's Basketball returns to action on Friday, hosting Howard Payne in a 5:30 p.m. contest in Kimbrell Arena.
 
The War Hawks enter with a 2-1 record after an exhibition loss at Sam Houston State.
 
McMurry Storylines
 
Return Engagement: Friday's game is the second of the season between McMurry and HPU. The War Hawks scored a 71-47 win last month in Brownwood. Emily Holland had 15 points and five assists, Helana Chadwick had 10 points and 10 rebounds and Ashton Garner and Aryana Cleveland made solid offensive contributions with 14 an 12 points, respectively. Taysie Trejo led the Yellow Jackets with 14 points.
 
Crashing the Boards: McMurry is fourth in Division III and leads the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference with 33.7 defensive rebounds per game. Chadwick (6.3 defensive rebounds per game), Cleveland (5.7) and Holland (5.7) are all in the league's top 10 in that category individually.
 
Sharp Shooters: McMurry ranks ninth in D3 and first in the SCAC with its 47.2 percent shooting from the field. Katie Hale leads the War Hawks starters at 50 percent while Garner leads the bench at 78.6 percent.
 
From Three-Point Land: The War Hawks are first in the SCAC and 17th in NCAA Division III in both three-point shooting percentage and three-pointers made per game. McMurry shoots 36.6 percent from the perimeter and lands 8.7 three-pointers per game. Emily Holland leads the team and is second is the SCAC at 42.9 percent and Flippin is fourth at 40 percent. Flippin has a team-high eight three-pointers this season.
 
Scoring Defense: McMurry ranked first in the SCAC in scoring defense, allowing 57.3 points per game.
 
On Point: McMurry is led in scoring by Flippin, who averages 18 points per game. Emily Holland has had an all-around season so far with 12.7 points, seven rebounds, two steals and 3.7 assists per game.
 
Scouting HPU: The Yellow Jackets are 3-6 this season after a 61-51 win over the University of Dallas on Saturday. Trejo leads the Howard Payne with 17.7 points and 3.1 steals per game. Jazlyn Braithwaite averages 13.6 points per game.
