This Week in McM Swimming and Diving

ABILENE – McMurry heads to Trinity's Tiger Invitational this weekend for three days against stiff competition.
 
Prelims begin at 10 am. on Friday and Saturday, with diving at 1:30 p.m. and finals at 6 p.m. On Sunday, prelims start at 10 a.m. and finals at 5 p.m. Along with McMurry and Trinity,  Southwestern, Austin College, Loyola (LA), St. Thomas, UT-Permian Basin, Colorado State-Pueblo, UTRGV, and Incarnate Word are competing.
 
McMurry Storylines
 
Winners in Arkansas: Leilani Washington, Caitlyn Sauer-Newell, Lorin Mow and Maddy Rohrer again got the McMurry women headed in the right direction, winning the 200 medley relay in 2:01.67. That group won the 400 medley relay on Friday. Rohrer also won the 200 freestyle in 2:09.02 and the 50 free in 26.08. Sauer-Newell took the 1000 freestyle in her best time this season, 11:46.33. That duo had a strong weekend. Rohrer also won the 100 freestyle in 57.41 and Sauer-Newell won the 200 individual medley in 2:28.39 on Friday. Victor Zambrano, Wes Scalf, Caden Motheral and Sterling Wright won the men's 200 medley relay in 1:44.47. Zambrano also won the 400 individual medley in 4:38.34. He later won the 100 backstroke in 59.15 seconds. Montgomery Cortez won the 200 freestyle in 1:57.81 and the 1000 freestyle in 11:23.88. Harrison Brown took the 50 free in 23.95. Elijah Trevino won the one-meter diving at 167.40. He won on Friday at 183. Brown, Kristopher Cantu, Cortez and Scalf gave the War Hawks a win in the final event of the weekend, taking the 400 freestyle relay in 3:26.79. Zambrano, Scalf, Motheral and Brown won the 400 medley relay in 3:39.97, the best mark of the season for the War Hawks in that event. Cantu, Wright, Montgomery and Brown finished off Friday with a win in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:34.56.

Women's Backstroke: Caitlyn Sauer-Newell leads the War Hawks in the women's 100 and 50 backstroke events with times of 1:05.98 and 31.33 seconds. She leads in the 200 backstroke at 2:20.15. 
 
Men's Backstroke: Cortez leads the McMurry men with a 27.00 in the 50 and  Zambrano has a 58.49 in the 100 and a 2:05.69 in the 200.
 
Men's Breaststroke: Scalf tops the McM men with a 1:00.55 in the 100 breaststroke, 27.85 in the 50 and 2:14.94 in the 200.
 
Women's Breaststroke: Leilani Washington has the top women's time in the 50 at 40.00 and the 200 at 3:17.38. Rohrer leads in the 100 at 1:16.07.
 
Women's Butterfly: Mow leads the War Hawk women in the 50 butterfly at 30.45 and at 1:08.30 in the 100. She has a team-best 2:37.71 in the 200.
 
Men's Butterfly: Daniil Kochkonbaev leads the McM men in the 50 at 26.51 while Caden Motheral has the best time in the 100 at 58.15. Victor Zambrano has the top time in the 200 at 2:11.46.
 
Men's Freestyle: Harrison Brown tops the McMurry men in the 50 free at 22.81. Wes Scalf leads the team in the 100 at 49.18. Zambrano has a 1:53.00 in the 200 free. Montgomery Cortez has a 10:45.66 in the 1000 free and a 5:12.37 in the 500 free to lead the squad.
 
Women's Freestyle: Rohrer leads the women in the 50 free at 25.89, the 100 free at 57.14, the 200 at 2:05.14 and the 500 at 5:36.41. Sauer-Newell has the team's best time in the 1000 at 11:46.33.
 
Women's IM: Sauer-Newell has McMurry's best time in the 200 individual medley at 2:21.38 and the 400 IM at 5:12.43.
 
Men's IM: Wes Scalf leads the men in the 200 individual medley at 2:02.80 and Montgomery Cortez leads in the 400 at 4:37.25.
 
Women's Relays: Mow, Sauer-Newell, Rohrer and Washington have the top time in the women's 400 free relay at 3:56.73 and the 200 medley at 2:01.67.  Washington, Milana Johnson, Mow and Sauer-Newell lead the 200 free relay at 1:50.36 Washington, Sauer-Newell, Mow and Rohrer have the best time in the 400 medley relay at 4:31.00.
 
Men's Relays: Brown, Motheral, Wright and Scalf have the best time in the men's 400 free at 3:25.12. Kristopher Cantu, Sterling Wright, Cortez and Brown have the best men's time in the 200 free relay at 1:34.56 and Zambrano, Scalf, Motheral and Brown have best mark in the 200 medley at 1:43.49. Zambrano, Scalf, Motheral and Brown lead McM in the 400 medley relay at 3:39.97.
 
Diving: Elijah Trevino leads the War Hawks in the one-meter at 192.60.
