Box Score McMurry University's Lady War Hawks are on a two-game win streak after beating Sul Ross State University 68-65 Saturday, Jan. 27 in Alpine.
Junior guard/forward Emily Holland (Mansfield, Texas) was top scorer with 22 points, followed by sophomore guard Kylie Flippin (Wichita Falls, Texas) with 15, sophomore guard Helana Chadwick (La Vernia, Texas) with 14 and junior post Katie Hale (Decatur, Texas) with 10.
Coach Drew Long's team was outscored 16-10 in the first quarter, but won the second quarter 19-14, third quarter 20-19 and fourth quarter 19-16.
The Lady War Hawks connected on nine three-pointers with Holland having four, Hale contributing three and Flippin adding two. At the free-throw line, Holland was 4 of 6, Chadwick was 4 of 5, senior guard/forward Taya Bridges (Mesquite, Texas) was 2 of 4, junior post Ashton Garner (Odessa, Texas) was a perfect 2 of 2 and Hale was 1 of 2. Holland led in rebounds with eight, one on offense and seven on defense. Bridges and Holland each blocked a shot. The visitors stole the ball 11 times. Bridges had four thefts, sophomore forward/center Aryana Cleveland (San Antonio, Texas) and Holland had two apiece, and Garner, Hale and Flippin had one each.
The score was tied nine times and the lead changed hands six times.
The game didn't count in the American Southwest Conference standings because the opponent is reclassifying to Division 2.
McMurry, 14-6 overall and 8-3 in conference, plays at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at University of Texas-Dallas in Richardson.
