AUSTIN, TEXAS – At the end of a back-and-forth night of American Southwest Conference action in Concordia University's Fieldhouse, the differences were very few between McMurry University and their hosts Friday, Sept. 22.
The War Hawks, looking to snap a six-match skid, were neck-and-neck with the Tornados throughout. Both sides delivered 50-or-more kills, served up seven aces and dug up 75-plus opponent attack attempts. However, the scoreboard leaned the way of Concordia in a 20-25, 25-21, 25-20, 24-26, 15-10 finish.
Senior middle/right side hitter
Addyson Tiffin (Bushland, Texas) topped the offensive threat for head coach
Cammie Petree's team. She hammered 10 kills at the home defense without an error on 20 attempts for a meteoric .500 attack percentage. Junior outside hitter
Jacee Dinkins (Azle, Texas) tallied 13 kills as part of a double-double to go with 11 digs.
Those efforts were just part of the statistical standouts for the Maroon and White. More belonged to senior defensive specialist/libero Addie Leal (Clute, Texas) (22 digs, two service aces); junior setter
Ashlyn Quillan (Van Alstyne, Texas) (20 assists, 12 digs); freshman setter
Allison Montoya (Fort Worth, Texas) (19 assists, six digs); and freshman middle/right side hitter
Rylie Patterson (Amarillo, Texas) (five kills, three block assists).
McMurry (1-11, 0-2 ASC) clashes with Mary Hardin-Baylor Saturday, Sept. 23, in league play. First serve is 1 p.m. at UMHB's Mayborn Campus Center.
