MEMPHIS, TENN. – In what continues to be a wild and woolly non-conference slate for McMurry University, head coach Marquis Muse's squad battled back from an early 2-0 deficit Friday, Sept. 15, forging the team's second tie of the year.
Despite holding a 15-9 edge in total shots, McMurry's offense was kept bottled up by Hendrix College for nearly the entire opening half. Meanwhile, the Southern Athletic Association foe found the back of THE War Hawks net twice in the span.
However, the Maroon and White bounced back. Sophomore midfielder
Danny Chavez (Fort Worth, Texas) notched his team-leading second goal in the 33
rd minute. After the halftime break at Rhodes College Field, the youth corps kept it going, as freshman defender
Myles DeBondt (League City, Texas) and freshman midfielder
Nick Munoz (Lubbock, Texas) cashed in successful offensive strikes for a 3-2 lead with just under 26 minutes to play.
Hendrix managed one more scoreboard digit, evening the contest at 3-3 in the 67
th minute. McMurry had two more opportunities to reclaim their lead but a penalty kick was knocked away and a set piece was foiled by the opponents down the stretch.
The War Hawks (1-1-2) take on Rhodes College Sunday, Sept. 17. Kickoff is 2:30 p.m.
