SECOND-HALF SURGE SUBDUES MCMURRY IN TENNESSEE TRIP FINALE

MEMPHIS, TENN. – Freshman goalkeeper Brandon Walker (Royse City, Texas) and McMurry University's defensive back line kept Rhodes College's high-octane offense in check for 45 minutes Sunday, Sept. 17.

However, the host Lynx had other plans in the second stanza. Rhodes put up two goals in a key 15-minute span of the final 45 to help lead them to a 3-0 non-conference victory. After battling to a scoreless draw despite an 8-3 shots deficit in the first half, head coach Marquis Muse's side couldn't overcome an 11-3 advantage for the home team in the second frame.

A quintet of Maroon and White offensive scholar-athletes had an offensive strike attempt apiece. Sophomore midfielder Johnny Rocha (Abilene, Texas), freshman defender Anthony Licea (Lake Highlands, Texas), sophomore midfielder Danny Chavez (Fort Worth, Texas), junior midfielder Trey Castillo (Abilene, Texas) and sophomore defender Jaten Allen (Abilene, Texas) all collected one shot.

McMurry (1-2-2) continues a set of four in a row on the road Friday, Sept. 22. They visit Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference member St. Thomas of Texas in a 7:30 p.m. kickoff at the Houston Sports Park.
